Implementation
The project, located at one of Çankaya's major intersections, was expected to include a commercial and office complex on the land.
The design process began with an analysis of the site's location. The most challenging aspect of the design process was the relationship between the structure on the site and the intersection. The intersection, with its high density of both pedestrians and vehicles, created a congested appearance. The structure designed here needed to eliminate this congested appearance.
To this end, the first step was to enlarge the existing square and incorporate pedestrian density into the site. This would eliminate the boundaries between the site and the intersection, creating a unified structure. To achieve this integration and freedom, the office blocks were located at the farthest point from the intersection, and free trade spaces were planned between the intersection and the office block.
The free trade spaces were grouped under an eave, and skylights were installed on the eaves to directly illuminate the pedestrian paths.
The design of the office block was also informed by these ideas. Although originally separate from each other, their lines create a perceptual whole. In this way, they became symbols of the unified concept that guided the design from the very beginning.
