Concept
An interpretation of the city skyline with its curvy form extending to the horizon.
Tuscana Tower was developed as a concept project in 2020 by Korucuoğlu Architecture on behalf of Menrud Bims Group on a 187,000 m² site in the rising urban development area of Erbil, Iraq. The project presents a powerful structural language that blends the fluid forms of modern architecture with the sharp texture of the desert climate.
The tower form, shaped by curved lines, not only provides an aerodynamic effect to the building's façade; it also offers a passive design suitable for the regional climate by breaking wind loads. The twin towers converge at the base level and gradually separate at the upper levels, providing advantages both in terms of landscape use and interior privacy. This separation also lends the project a visual lightness and rhythmic dynamism.
The façade language, with horizontally continuous glass bands and metallic surfaces, presents a simple yet effective appearance. This language is further accentuated by nighttime lighting, enhancing the building's presence in the city skyline. The reflective glass and metal surfaces used create a changing play of light at different times of the day.
Commercial units located at ground level create a base platform that supports public access and daily life. The cylindrical cubic structure at the main entrance creates a focal point on an urban scale, while its light, permeable surface creates a welcoming atmosphere that is both iconic and inviting. This element is also a powerful architectural gesture that will ensure the building's etched place in urban memory.
Tuscana Tower is not just a building; it is a proposal for a next-generation living and commercial center that shapes Erbil's future urban fabric, adapts to the climate, and combines aesthetics with functionality.
