Modernity and Rationality in Public Health Infrastructure
Located in Ümraniye, one of Istanbul's rapidly growing and densely populated districts, Ümraniye State Hospital is an example of a public project that successfully blends functionality, scaled layout, and sustainable architecture in contemporary healthcare buildings.
The compact and horizontally expanding massing organization is designed to provide users with all the functions expected of a healthcare complex in the most accessible way.
The individual blocks are divided into functional zones for the emergency room, outpatient clinics, inpatient services, technical spaces, and administrative units, ensuring both ease of orientation and operational efficiency.
The spacious drop-off area and ambulance parking positions, prominent in the emergency room design, ensure safe and rapid patient access, while the simple and repetitive window modulations on the façade maximize daylighting in the interior spaces.
The green spaces and skylights on the building's roofs reference sustainability principles and pave the way for passive solutions that connect with nature at the building's scale. Equipped with ample parking spaces, pedestrian paths, and service lines, the campus layout creates a comfortable daily use scenario for both visitors and healthcare professionals.
Beyond being a mere healthcare facility, Ümraniye State Hospital embodies the simple, functional, and timeless facet of public architecture. With its rational layout and simple façade, it is an exemplary project that blends in with Istanbul's urban integrity while simultaneously establishing its own unique identity.
